The latest in a line of Career Days was held at University College Aspira. Seeing as students are obligated to undertake professional internships, the Career Day gives them the opportunity to introduce themselves to employers, as well as the chance to complete their internships in their companies.
A great number of restaurants and hotels answered Aspira’s invitation, including restaurant Pelegrini from Šibenik and its chef Rudolf Stefan, restaurant Yacht club Baotić, Divino wine bar, Zinfandel food and wine bar, Brasserie, restaurant Zrno soli, Fabrique pub, restaurants Mediteran from Primošten and Nautika from Dubrovnik, the Gastronomadi web portal, and others.
The Career Day is a ‘recruiting centre’ for restaurant owners and managers, as well as for managers of hotel restaurants. The employers were very pleased with how well organised and prepared the students were. Together with their mentors, the students went through the entire preparation process, from creating their CVs to the manner in which they should introduce themselves, in order for them to leave the best impression on their future employers.
Contact with employers is of great importance for Gastronomy students, as professional internships very often result in employment. Italian chef Vincenzo Guarino, holder of three Michelin stars and lecturer at Aspira, said that ‘theory is very important, but practice is what ultimately makes someone a chef’.
We wish to provide our students not only with the best classes and lecturers, but also with the opportunity to complete their internships in the best restaurants, where they will be able to hone their knowledge further and thus be ready for the responsibilities they will assume when they are employed.
The benefit of this vocation is that it is very easy to find a job anywhere in the world, both during the season and throughout the entire year. Respected and skilled chefs are needed in every restaurant, as they are the main reason for guests to return.
We are proud that our students will be the first graduates to hold a Croatian diploma in Gastronomy management.
